What Might The Best Cydia App

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make a video for you guys, as video capture of an iPod Touch is extremely difficult short of a physical camera. Cydia's Screen Recorder has bad frame rate and for some reason it wasn't saving. I also tried Veency + Hypercam, but the frame rate was absolutely horrible. I might try later today with my digital camera.

In the meantime, I'll tell you what might be the best evidence Apple should open up to jailbreakers. It's not multitasking, not theming, not Installous. It's a little thing called VoiceActivator. Currently, Apple's Voice Control is limited to playing music, switching albums, shuffling, and making calls. VA piggybacks on Apple's voice recognition and allows you to do anything with Voice Control. Say "Engage Cydia" and Cydia opens. "Open filesystem" and iFile open. The best part is its completely custom. Check out the video (not taking credit).

Well, I haven't posted here in a while. You know, school and all. You guys understand right? I thought the wait would be justifiable and that I would come out with some great post with a video or something, but you guys are going to have to take what I give you. >_< Just kidding. I sincerely hope I'll be able to give you guys some good content like videos or something. I'm working on one now. :)

iBooks

Hello again. After a day of hard core snow shoveling (I really should have posted earlier, but I didn't, so deal with it) I deliver to you a sort of app review. iBooks is relatively old news, but only recently did I realize how cool it really is. After more than two years of reading nothing more than I had to for school, I decided to start pursuing some quality literature of my own choice, so I downloaded a library of almost 1000 books. Since they were in hte .mobi format, which iBooks dislikes, I used Calibre, an eBook management and conversion program, to transmute them into .ePub. Then it's as simple as draging the ePub files into iTunes. Now, as many people as there are who despise iTunes, I really have no problem; since you already have your music, videos, and soul syncing through iTunes, might as well micromanage the books. Reading is pretty nice: you have 2 different font sizes, landscape/portrait reading (of which I prefer the former), black on white/black on sepia (sadly no white on black for night reading),a robust chapter and bookmark navigation system, and extremely realistic page turning effects. My favorite feature, though, is the built in dictionary. If you come across a word you don't know, simply highlight it and click dictionary in the menu. Much better than actually getting up and walking 5 steps to get a physical one. My only gripes are the lack of automatic arrangement of your "Bookshelf" and the fact that it only accepts ePub. Other than that, I much prefer it over the Kindle app, Stanza, or anything else I've used. So start reading and lets make Europe think we not really that dumb!

So I do have a jailbroken iPod Touch 3g running iOS 4.1. Yes, the 4th generation iPod Touch has come out, but I don't have that much money to throw around. So, if you want to buy me one, I'll be happy to give you my PayPal email ^_^. On a more serious note, Apple has released iOS 4.2 quite some time ago. Why not switch? Well, more anti-jailbreak patches, less stuff from Cydia actually works, and it's worth it to have a slightly dated, fully working version.***

What was the reason for this post again? Oh yeah: Sources. Now, I don't have a huge list of sources, but you still might want to at least check them out.

The above are repo's that host cracked packages, meaning they have packages found in the Cydia store that you normally have to pay for but can now get for free. Between them you can get almost ANY paid package.

BENM, while having a frighteningly little number of packages, is a dedicated source for Frash, that is, Adobe Flash Player (kind of) on your iPhone/iPod Touch. Its still (extemely) buggy, but occasionally you get something that works that otherwise wouldn't. Its definitely a project to keep track of.

Hey guys. Sorry for the late post. I have a snow day today and just had breakfast after really sleeping in ^_^. Here in Connecticut we're supposed to have a 3 day snowstorm starting today. Now that I think about it, I haven't had a full week of school in over a month. Anyway, I'm going to try to post 2-3 times a day, probably before 10:30 A.M. (in my totally oblivious teachers' Chemistry or Algebra II classes), after 7:00 P.M., and maybe around 2-3:00 P.M. (in my uber-oblivious Civics teacher's class) (all Eastern Time).
